OUR HISTORY
LPAA was founded in 1946 by Lawrence Park fathers returning from the war, pulling together ice time and hockey games. The intention was to develop hockey and skating skills of local boys and girls. The concept today is much as it was then and is still staffed primarily by local volunteers.
Baseball evolved in the early 1950's as another LPAA sport. Over the years, LPAA has developed into a full range of activities which now also include Family Fun Day, soccer, and swimming. Currently the LPAA caters to thousands of players, hundreds of teams and dozens of volunteers. Although the numbers and the programs have grown the community spirit of the LPAA remains the same.
OUR MISSION
The focal point of LPAA activities is fun, camaraderie, teamwork, and skills-development, with competition being of lesser importance (except for the finals). Although our participants are often quite competitive, the emphasis is always fun. Activities are made available firstly to residents of the area known as Lawrence Park.
Lawrence Park is loosely defined as north and south of Lawrence Avenue, east of Yonge Street, and west of Bayview Avenue area. When there are positions open in the various LPAA activities, these positions are made available to residents of adjacent neighborhoods. Staff primarily consists of mainly parent and sometimes teenager volunteers from the neighborhood.
